Moreover, patients will also be reimbursed for their time and travel. Payments are subjective to study.

Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS)

University Clinical Research Center has teamed up with Grunenthal Pharmaceuticals, located in Aachen, Germany to combat Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS). Individuals may be affected by CRPS if pain from an injury is much more severe and long-lasting than normal, the affected area becomes swollen or stiff, there are mild or dramatic changes in skin color, temperature or swelling, or the pain spreads throughout the body. Grunenthal has developed an intravenous infusion therapy which is hoped to provide patients with aid in countering the agonizing symptoms associated with CRPS. University Clinical Research Center will administer the medicine, comprehensively monitor patients’ progress during treatment and provide follow up care to the patients after therapy has ended.

Sleep Apnea

Sleep apnea affects millions of people across the globe. Unfortunately, it is common for this sleep disorder to go undiagnosed and untreated, which may lead to serious heart problems, neurological impairments and physiological challenges.

There are two common forms of sleep apnea:

  1. Obstructive sleep apnea is the most common type of sleep apnea that occurs when throat muscles relax and allow the tongue to fall back and block the airway, causing a snore. In the time period that breathing stops, oxygen levels fall and blood pressure increases, causing a potentially dangerous situation.
  2. Central sleep apnea is often diagnosed in patients who have been taking pain medication for a prolonged period of time.
    Central sleep apnea is diagnosed when a person’s brain does not send accurate signals to the muscles that control breathing. The airways remain open but the diaphragm temporally stops functioning, causing the individual to wake up gasping for air. This type of sleep apnea does not cause patients to snore.
